Giants Overcome Cardinals 7-4

After homering in his major league debut on Saturday, John Bowker clubbed a two-run shot and drove in four runs yesterday as the San Francisco Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-4, to gain a split of their four-game set at AT&T Park. Eugenio Velez added a two-run single for the Giants, who improved to 5-and-8 on the season. For Bowker, Sunday was just a continuation of his dream-debut in the big leagues. Called up from Triple-A Fresno on Friday, the 24-year-old Sacramento native became just the eighth Giants player in San Francisco franchise-history to homer in his debut when he connected on a solo blast in Saturday's extra-innings loss. Tim Lincecum went the first six innings for the win, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out 11 to move his record to 2-and-0. Joel Pineiro took the loss to fall to 0-and-1. The Giants begin a three-game series at home this evening (7:15 p.m.) against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
