Liriano Struggles in First Start as Royals Top Twins 5-1

Francisco Liriano battled wildness in his first major league start in 19 months, while Kansas City's Brian Bannister was near-perfect in the Royals' 5-1 win over the Twins yesterday at Kauffman Stadium. Liriano allowed four runs on six hits in four and two-thirds innings, walking four and striking out five while throwing 90 pitches. He's coming back from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow. Bannister pitched his second career complete game, allowing three hits and one unearned run. The only run for the Twins came across on an R-B-I single by Justin Morneau in the first inning. The loss snapped the Twins' three-game winning streak.
