Mussina Leads Yankees Past White Sox 6-4

New York Yankees starting pitcher Mike Mussina, by and large, has started slow this season - almost a continuation of last season, when he struggled. Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field could be the boost that Mussina needed; he pitched 7 strong innings, leading New York to a 6-4 win over Chicago. New York was led by Jorge Posada with 4 hits, including 3 doubles and 2 RBIs while Johnny Damon and Melky Cabrera added 2 hits each. The win went to the aforementioned Mussina (2-3) who went 7 innings, allowing just 4 hits, 2 earned runs, walking 1 while striking out 3; closer Mariano Rivera picked up his 6th save of the season. Chicago was led by Orlando Cabrera and Jim Thome with 2 hits apiece while Joe Crede and Carlos Quentin hit a home run each - with Crede hitting his 6th while Quentin hit his 5th. Javier Vazquez (3-2) took the loss for Chicago as he pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing 10 hits, 6 earned runs, walking 3 while striking out 3. New York (12-10) plays again on Thursday as they face Chicago (11-9); Phil Hughes (0-3) takes the mound for New York while Gavin Floyd (2-0) gets the start for Chicago.
