Pineiro Pitches Cards Past Pirates 5-2
Joel Pineiro struck out six over seven strong innings to lead the Cardinals to a 5-2 win over the Pirates in the finale of a two-game set at PNC Park. Pineiro allowed a run on four hits and a walk en route to his first win of the season. Brian Barton had two hits and two RBI for the Cards, who earned a split in the series. Albert Pujols was 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI in the victory. Adam LaRoche drove in a run and had two hits for Pittsburgh, which had won its previous two. Tom Gorzelanny allowed three runs on two hits and seven walks in five frames to drop to 1-and-3 with the loss.
