Curtis Granderson went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and scored three times as the Tigers defeated the Yankees 6-4 in the first of a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. Placido Polanco added four hits, an RBI and scored twice for Detroit, which has won six of its last eight games. Gary Sheffield also homered for the Tigers. Kenny Rogers hurled six innings of two-run ball to improve to 2-and-3 with the win. Todd Jones gave up a run in the ninth, but held on for his fifth save. Phil Hughes was tagged for all six runs in three-and-two-thirds innings to fall to 0-and-4 with the loss. Robinson Cano hit a two-run homer for New York, which fell to 14-and-14.
