Buzzie Bavasi, Former Dodgers General Manager, Dead At 93

A rather sad event took place in the world of baseball as according to Bill Bavasi, Seattle Mariners general manager, former Dodgers GM Buzzie Bavasi passed away on Thursday; he was 93. Bavasi was the chief architect of the Dodgers teams - both the Brooklyn and Los Angeles franchises - that would win four World Series titles; Bavasi's Dodgers teams included such greats as Jackie Robinson, Duke Snider, Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. Bavasi would later become part-owner and president of the San Diego Padres before becoming executive vice president of the Califonia - now Los Angeles - Angels. Bavasi spent 44 years working in baseball - including 34 at the major league level; he began his career as a traveling secretary and publicity director for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1939; after serving in various capacities for the team, he was promoted to GM just before the 1951 season.
