Dice-K Effectively Wild As Red Sox Top Tigers



Mike Lowell went 3-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer as the Red Sox doubled up the Tigers 6-3 in the opener of a four-game series at Comerica Park. Kevin Youkilis and David Ortiz also went yard for the Red Sox, who won for the seventh time in eight games. Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed one run on two hits and eight walks over five frames to move to 5-and-0 with the win. Jonathan Papelbon pitched a perfect ninth to notch his 10th save. Marcus Thames had a pinch-hit, two-run single for the Tigers, who fell to 14-and-19 with their fourth consecutive defeat. Jeremy Bonderman fell to 2-and-3 with the loss.
