Hochevar, Pen Tame Tigers
Rookie Luke Hochevar and three relievers combined on a six-hitter as the Royals blanked the Tigers 2-0 in the second-of-three at Kauffman Stadium. Hochevar scattered four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in six innings to improve to 3-and-2. Ron Mahay, Leo Nunez and Joakim Soria followed with an inning each, with Soria fanning two in the ninth for his 10th save. Joey Gathright's two-run single in the second provided the offense for Kansas City, which has won three in-a-row. Justin Verlander allowed just two runs in six innings, but fell to 1-and-7 with the loss. Miguel Cabrera had two of the six hits for Detroit, which did not have an extra-base hit and has lost nine-of-11.
