Markakis, Cabrera Lead O's Past Royals

Nick Markakis slugged a three-run homer in the third inning to help power the Orioles to a 4-1 win over the Royals in the first of a four-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Markakis also scored on a wild pitch in the first for Baltimore, which snapped a five-game losing streak. Daniel Cabrera threw a three-hitter, allowing just three hits and a run while striking out seven to improve to 3-and-1. Luke Hochevar surrendered five hits and four runs over seven innings to fall to 2-and-2 with the loss. Tony Pena, Jr. singled in a run in the fifth inning for Kansas City, which has lost four of its last six.
