Nats Top Pirates in DC 3-2

Austin Kearns singled in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Nationals to a 3-2 win over the Pirates in the opener of a four-game set at Nationals Park. Wil Nieves knocked in a pair of runs for Washington, which has won four in-a-row and six-of-seven overall. Luis Ayala worked a flawless eighth to pick up his first win. Jon Rauch shut the door in the ninth for his sixth save. Freddy Sanchez and Ryan Doumit each launched solo homers for Pittsburgh, which came up short for the fifth time in seven games. John Grabow allowed the deciding run to fall to 1-and-1.
