Pujols Pounds A Pair As Redbirds Pound Padres

Albert Pujols hit two of the Cardinals' four home runs in an 8-2 win over the Padres at Petco Park. Ryan Ludwick hit a two-run shot in the first inning, Cesar Izturis hit a solo shot in the fourth, and Pujols added solo blasts in the fifth and eighth as St. Louis won its third in-a-row. Todd Wellemeyer pitched six innings of two-run ball to improve to 5-and-1 with the win. Wil Ledezma gave up four runs in four innings to take the loss for San Diego, which owns the majors' worst record at 16-and-30. Brian Giles had two hits and an RBI for the Padres. Kahlil Greene also had two hits in the setback. The Padres have also put ace Jake Peavy on the 15-day DL with inflammation in his right elbow.
