Thames Powers Tigers Past Halos

Marcus Thames hit a pair of two-run homers and Armando Galarraga took a shutout into the ninth inning as the Tigers turned back the Angels 6-2 in Anaheim. Edgar Renteria went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Detroit, which salvaged the finale of the three-game series after losing the previous two games in walk-off fashion. Galarraga pitched eight-and-a-third innings, giving up a two-run homer to Maicer Izturis in the ninth to spoil the shutout. Joe Saunders allowed five runs in five innings to fall to 8-and-2 with the setback.
