Dodgers Outslug Rockies At Coors

The Dodgers scored eight times in the first inning and went on to outslug the Rockies 16-10 in the opener of a three-game series at Coors Field. James Loney went 3-for-6 with five RBI for Los Angeles, which built an 11-0 lead in the third inning and a 16-3 lead in the fifth and held on from there. Jeff Kent went 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored for LA, which remains tied with Arizona atop the NL West. Brian Falkenborg got the win in relief of starter Eric Stults, who was pulled after throwing 74 pitches in three-and-two-thirds innings. Kip Wells was charged with all eight runs in the first inning while recording just one out to take the loss for Colorado. Matt Holliday went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI for the Rockies, who outhit the Dodgers 20-to-18 in defeat. Brad Hawpe also had three RBI in defeat.
