Reports Say Twins To Deal Santana To Mets For Prospects
"USA Today" reported Tuesday that the Minnesota Twins, and the New York Mets have agreed in principle to a deal that will send former Cy Young Award winner starter Johan Santana to the New York Mets for a bevy of minor league players.
The report says that the trade is contingent on Santana passing a physical, and the Mets and the player's representatives working out a long term contract extension. Santana is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the 2008 MLB season. The extension is believed to be in the neighborhood of 6-7 years. Santana, has a no trade clause that he would be willing to waive if the deal is consummated. New York and the two time Cy Young Award winner have a window of 48 to 72 hours according to the report to work out the extension.
The report says that the Mets would give the Twins, outfielder Carlos Gomez, and three pitchers. Deolis Guerra, Phil Humber, and Kevin Mulvey would all go to Minnesota, if the proposed deal goes through. Santana, has been the subject of trade speculation since the end of the 2007 World Series. At times it looked like the New york Yankees, and Boston Red Sox were the front runners to land the highly sought after hurler. If the deal is consummated, it would alleviate a lot of criticism that Mets General Manager Omar Minaya has received from the New York Tabloids.

I saw your blog on the Blogcatalog site and I just wanted to say I like it.
I'm starting to notice a pattern lately, in regards to pending trades, and was wondering what you thought:
Teams seem to pull guys from their Winter League teams a day or so before the trade is announced. Sort of happened with the Berdard/Jones trade.
It would be interesting to see if this is something we could keep an eye out for in terms of forecasting trades.
