Lowe Faces Off Against Hamels In First Game Of NLCS
The 2008 NLCS will feature two teams that have not made their way to the "Big Dance" in many years. The Philadelphia Phillies will host the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night, as Cole Hamels will be on the mound for the Phillies. The Dodgers will counter with veteran Derek Lowe, as they look to make their first World Series appearance since defeating the Oakland A's back in 1988. The Phillies last time making it to the National Stage was when they lost the series to the Toronto Blue Jays in 1993.
The Dodgers have prospered in the first year of having former New York Yankees skipper Joe Torre as their manager. Torre was offered a one year contract by the Bronx Bombers but the contract was for less money than he made in 2007. Torre turned the offer down and switched leagues and coasts by going to the Dodgers. The Phillies manager Charlie Manuel is managing in his first League Championship Series. He had previously lost in the Division Series with the Phillies and the Cleveland Indians.
