Reports Out Of New York Say Girardi Is Yankees Choice
The Associated Press reported Monday that the New York Yankees have chosen Joe Girardi to become the next bench boss of the team replacing the departed Joe Torre. According to the report negotiations are taking place at this time between the organization and Girardi's agent finalize the pact. Girardi was one of three candidates interviewed for the job, bench coach Don Mattingly and first base coach Tony Pena also received interview sessions. Girardi who was a broadcaster on Yankees games this past season is a former Yankees player and coach. He managed the Florida Marlins in 2006 and was named National League Manager of the Year but was fired after the season for disagreements between Girardi and the Marlins team owner. No word on when an update will be forthcoming.
