Battling Barrett Traded To Padres

The Chicago Cubs Wednesday traded catcher Michael Barrett and cash to the San Diego Padres in exchange for San Diego's backup catcher Rob Bowen, and a low Single A outfielder Kyler Burke. Barrett who may be better known for his fights than his Major League ability was involved in two blowups with teammates in recent weeks. The catcher was slugged by pitcher Carlos Zambrano after a loss to the Atlanta Braves on June 1. He then got into shouting match with Chicago pitcher Rich Hill in the dugout during a game against the Seattle Mariners. Barrett hitting .256 with nine homers and 29 RBI has had some problems with his defense. Barrett was suspended for ten games last year after punching out White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski after he had been run over at home while trying to protect the plate.
