Schmidt To Undergo Shoulder Surgery
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Jason Schmidt will undergo shoulder surgery on Wednesday, which will in all likelihood end his 2007 season. Schmidt was the Dodger's big money free agent acquisition during the off season signing a three year pact believed to be worth $47 million. Schmidt has experienced shoulder problems all season long, going on the disabled list back in April after suffering bursitis in the shoulder. The 34 year old veteran returned with a start on June 5, as he threw six scoreless innings against the Padres. But Schmidt was not successful in his last two starts as the shoulder started to bother him again. L.A. General Manager Ned Colletti said the turn of events was discouraging.
