Yankees Pick Up Betemit To Get Bench Depth
The New York Yankees traded reliever Scott Proctor to the Los Angeles Dodgers for infielder Wilson Betemit just prior to the trade deadline on Tuesday. The Yankees thought they needed some extra bench strength, and were willing to give up Proctor who has been a mainstay in the New York bullpen this season. Proctor had a terrible June but has seen his ERA rebound in the month of July. Betemit whom the Dodgers picked up from Atlanta last year in a deadline deal is hitting .231 with 10 homers and 26 RBI, but is hitting .320 as a pinch hitter this season.
