Thome Hits Number 500 As A Walk Off Chi-Sox Top Halos 9-7
Chicago White Sox Designated Hitter Jim Thome has been looking forward to the opportunity to hit career home run number 500 for the last few weeks. He knew it would be a significant personal milestone, but he had no idea how much It would help his team. Sunday, Thome came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth tied at seven each with the Los Angeles Angels. Teammate Darin Erstad was on first with nobody out, and Thome worked Angels reliever Dustin Moseley to a 3-2 count and then hit a two run jack into left center. White Sox win the game 9-7, Thome gets his 28th homer of the year and number 500 of his career. Thome becomes only the 23rd player in MLB history to reach the mark, and ironically the third player this season all from the American League. Earlier this year Toronto Blue Jays DH Frank Thomas, and Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez broke the 500 plateau.
