Ankiel, Glaus, Reportedly Received Drug Shipments
Two different publications are naming two different MLB players as receiving shipments of performance enhancing drugs in the last few years. The New York Daily News is reporting that they have documented evidence that former starting pitcher turned outfielder Rick Ankiel member of the ST Louis Cardinals, received a 12 months supply back in 2004 of Human Growth Hormone, or as it is more commonly known HGH. The newspaper says that he received the substance from Signature Pharmacy located in Orlando, Florida which is alleged to be part of an illegal prescription drug distribution ring that was said to have been run on a nationwide level. Ankiel, who has been of the few "feel good" stories in Sports during the Summer of 2007, met with reporters Friday along with Cardinals General Manager Walt Jockety. They both strongly denied any wrong doing on Ankiel's part.
The other players named on Friday was Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Troy Glaus who according to SI.COM was the recipient of numerous shipments of testosterone, and nandrolone. According to the website, Glaus received the performance enhancing steroids between September 2003 through May 2004 also allegedly through Signature Pharmacy. Glaus has not commented on the matter at this time. MLB Spokesman Rich Levin says the league will look into the allegations.
