Fan Strikes Out At Minute Maid Park
Maybe I have just spent too many years in MLB press boxes, but when ever the Cleveland media covered an Indians game, and they showed a fan proposing to his girlfriend, we would scream at the image on the Jumbotron "Turn him down!" Not once did we ever have our wish granted. Well I did not get to see it, but according to USA Today Sports Weekly, it happened at Minute Maid Park in Houston on August 20, during an Astros game. During a break between innings, the Astros showed the "Kiss Cam" on the stadiums Jumbotron monitor. A fan got down on one knee and proposed to his female companion presenting her with a ring. According to the report, the woman at first appeared shocked, then angry, then dumped he popcorn on the poor sap and walked out of the stadium. The Astros say this was not a stunt, and the cost for the the tickets putting them on the big screen , and a "keepsake video" was $300.00. Sir maybe next time try a more secluded spot. I would imagine getting turned down would be embarrassing enough, not to mention having it done in front of more than 30,000 baseball fans.
