Braves Bulk Up For Stretch Drive
Things got real serious at the MLB trade deadline for the three top teams in the National League East. On Monday the Mets picked up second baseman Luis Castillo from the Twins, and the Phillies picked up starter Kyle Lohse from the Reds. On Tuesday it was the Atlanta Braves turn as they acquired three relievers Kansas City's Octavio Dotel, San Diego's Royce Ring, Texas' Ron Mahay and the big catch of the day Texas Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira. Teixeira was traded reluctantly by Texas owner Tom Hicks after the player's agent Scott Boras reportedly turned down a contract extension said to be for eight years and worth $140 million. The Rangers in return received catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia and three minor league players the highly touted shortstop Elvis Andrus, pitcher Neftali Feliz and a pitcher to be named later.
