Bo-Sox Clinch Playoff Spot Score Two In Ninth Beat D-Rays 8-6
The Boston Red Sox became the first team in 2007 to clinch a Post Season berth in MLB by beating the Tampa Bay Devil Rays Saturday night 8-6. Boston went into the top of the ninth knotted up at 6-6 with the D-Rays but Jason Varitek and Julio Lugo each went yard for the Red Sox. Eric Gagne got the win in relief, Boston's closer Jonathan Paplebon got save number 36 of the year. The Sox "magic number" is now down to six to win the American League East. The New York Yankees kept pace in the playoff hunt beating Toronto 12-11in ten innings to remain 2.5 games behind Boston for the division lead. The Saturday win assures Boston that the worst they could be is the Wild Card, if they can not stave off New York for the division title.
