Carmona, Is 18 And He Likes It Tribe Tops A's 4-3
The Cleveland Indians Friday night saw the second pitcher on their staff attain win number 18, as Cleveland defeated the Oakland A's 4-3. The pitcher who reached the mark against Oakland in the first game of their weekend series, Fausto Carmona who suffered through an badly thought out plan to try to turn this natural starter into a closer. The move last year, was made out of necessity when the Indians traded closer Bob Wickman to the Atlanta Braves last year just before the trade deadline. Carmona as badly suited as he was as a reliever has shown much success as a starter, beginning when he had an incredible year at the Class A Indians minor league team the Lake County Captains. With the win and Detroit winning as well Cleveland's "magic number" is now down to 2 games. If Cleveland wins and Detroit loses on Saturday the Indians will clinch their first playoff berth since 2001. The other Cleveland pitcher with 18 wins is southpaw C.C. Sabathia who got number 18 Wednesday against Detroit.
