Dice-K Leads Red Sox To Division Crown Beat Twins 5-2
The last two months had been tough for Boston Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka. Earlier in the season he had been dominant against American League teams, but he had gone since early August with only one win. Well the man known as Dice-K won the Boston fans back Friday night as the Boston Red Sox clinched the American League East title beating the Twins 5-2. That combined with the New York Yankees losing in 10 innings to the Baltimore Orioles 10-9 gave Boston their first A.L. East title in 12 years. Matsuzaka went 8 innings allowing just 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out 8. Minnesota rookie pitcher Kevin Slowey, one of a group of talented young pitchers that the Twins have got his first loss of the season as his record 4-1.
Alex Rodriguez hit his 54th home run of the year as well as RBI 155, but Mike Mussina looked like the guy who was having problems getting batters out in August in the start against Baltimore. The Moose went just five innings allowing 6 runs on 11 hits. New York will go into the Post Season as the Wild Card team, and the Post Season matchups have been confirmed with Cleveland beating Kansas City Friday night 5-3. New York will travel to Cleveland and Boston will host A.L. West winner the L.A. Angels.
