Beckett Over Powers Halos; Youk And Papi Over Power Lackey Bo-Sox Win 4-0
2007 has been quite a year for Boston Red Sox starter Josh Beckett. He was the only 20 game winner in MLB this season, in fact the only 20 game winner since the end of the 2005 season! He looks to be the front runner for the Cy Young award, and his team the Boston Red Sox won the American League East for the first time in 12 years and are hosting the L.A. Angels in the A.L.D.S. What Do you do for an encore? How about joining some MLB legends in the Post Season record books.
Beckett is now tied for second place in career Post Season shutouts with three, putting his name next to Whitey Ford and Mordechai "Three Fingers" Brown. They all trail the "Big Train" Walter Johnson with four. This after absolutely hypnotizing the Angels Wednesday night in Game One of the A.L.D.S. 4-0. Beckett allowed only 4 hits over his complete game victory, striking out 8 in the process.
Los Angeles starter John Lackey had what would usually be considered a "quality start" allowing 4 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings. Unfortunately for Lackey, it was just good enough to lose, as he got behind early allowing a first inning home run to Boston first baseman Kevin Youkilis, and then giving up a 2 run shot to David "Big Papi" Ortiz with Youkilis on base in the third. Boston takes a 1-0 lead in the best of five series, the two teams matchup again Friday at Fenway.
