D-Backs Draw First Blood Beat Cubbies 3-1
The Arizona Diamondbacks are basically MLB's version of the late Rodney Dangerfield, they "Don't Get No Respect." MLB observers thought they would fade against the San Diego Padres in the National League West, especially after losing veteran starter Randy Johnson to back surgery. These same observers thought they would not be able to compete in the N.L.D.S. against the Chicago Cubs who won the National League Central. Well, just like Rodney thrived as a comedian, the D-Backs are starting to show their critics they deserve the respect that has been denied them as they stymied the Cubs Wednesday night 3-1 in Game One of the N.L.D.S.

Arizona starter Brandon Webb and Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano were throwing bb's out on the mound as both teams only got 1 run and 4 hits off each starter. Chicago, blinked first however as Cubs skipper Lou Pinella pulled his Ace after six frames because he was pitching on just three days rest. The move backfired as reliever Carlos Marmol gave up two runs in one inning and the Diamondbacks closed the door on Chicago. Stephen Drew and Mike Reynolds each went deep for Arizona as they take a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.
